Sid De Beer was born in Johannesburg South Africa in 1950 and is the only son of the late Sam and the late Joan De Beer.
Sid was a keen sportsman in his youth and played at the highest level of amateur soccer in the state where he lived in South Africa and captained his team to a league and cup double.
He also had a love for cricket and was a useful fast bowler in his younger years.

After a successful Executive Management Career within the office products industry in South Africa, he immigrated to Australia in 1993 at the age of 43.
Sid ended his career as the General Manager of a company within the optical industry in Australia and had successfully taken a loss making entity and turned it into a highly profitable company before retiring.
